Graphic Design Billboard Challenge
Today you will practice with Photoshop and develop your graphic design skills by creating potential designs for a highway billboard. The city occasionally has access to a digital billboard along Route 93, and we are going to create some designs to promote the 125th Medford/Malden Thanksgiving game.
Here’s a look at a couple of designs we did last year for another project:
Getting Started
Create a rough design idea either by hand using paper/pencil or on your computer in Paint or Word or whatever you want.
Let me know when you have a rough draft so I can check it out.
When everyone is ready, together as a group we will use Photoshop. I will show you some basics so you can get going. I don’t have Photoshop on every computer so you will have to partner with another student. We will be using the laptops from last year’s class since they have Photoshop on them.
Graphic Design
This is a great opportunity to work on your graphic design skills. It’s a digital design for something that is much larger and at a much higher resolution than a web page. We will be doing more with graphic design, particularly as it relates to web design, throughout the year.
Some graphic design tips:
– Your design should have a clear focal point (don’t make it too “busy”)
– Typography- think about how you can use text to convey your message effectively
– Colors- try to use colors that complement each other and that highlight what’s important
