Class Thursday, September 10, 2015

0. Today’s featured website: http://www.pixelthoughts.co/

1. Extra credit reminders

  • Follow @MHSCoders on Twitter
  • Tweet something useful for class @MHSCoders
  • Suggest an app or website for our daily featured app/site activity (email me, tweet at e, write it down and hand in)

2. Goal statements

  • Please finish your poster
  • Let’s discuss our goals for the year

3. Create a page on the class website

  • Today you will begin working on your own page under Student Pages.
  • If you go to Student Pages, you will see that everyone has a (blank) page!
  • To begin, you must get a user name and password to log onto the site from me.
  • To login, go here: https://www.mhswebdesign.com/wp-admin. Your user name is your first name and the password is the one you just created.
  • From the left menu, choose Pages, then All Pages. Then search for your page by entering your first name into the search box at the top right.
  • When you find your page, hover your mouse over your name and click Edit.
  • What to add to your page- fun facts about yourself, where you went to middle school, interests/hobbies/sports, random thoughts, photos that inspire you and/or a selfie. To find nice photos to use, try https://unsplash.com/ or https://www.pexels.com/.
  • Check out others’ pages and leave questions or thoughtful comments about their content. Not simply “hi” or “what’s up” but something like “What’s your dog’s name?” or “How did you like visiting California?” If someone leaves you a question on your page, make sure to respond to him/her.
  • You are using WordPress, the content management system behind nearly 20% of self-hosted websites in the whole world!
  • Finished? See if you can make your Student Pages page more interesting like my students did last year (remember they made the selfie collage and had each person’s name a different color).
