CSS Vocabulary
- Selectors: CSS selectors select something on your webpage to be styled- an HTML element such as a headline, a div (section of a webpage), or a class (group of properties that get applied to certain things). So far we’ve only selected elements (headlines, paragraphs) and our body section. We will learn about divs and classes soon.
- CSS properties and values: CSS properties and values are applied to the different selectors to style them. Let’s check some out here.
- To do: Open Notepad++ to a recent CSS practice page. What are the selectors? What are the properties? What are the values?
- To do: Go to http://apps.workflower.fi/vocabs/css/en and click on the following: comment, statement, rule-set, declaration block, selector, universal selector, ID selector, class selector, pseudo-class, declaration, property, and value. You have already used MANY of these! What’s new: universal selector, ID selector, and class selector (we are learning these soon).
Your CSS Questions & Featured Sites/Apps
- What questions do you have about CSS, either concerning what we’ve done so far or what we will be learning?
- We look at a featured website or app every class. I’d like some suggestions from you! Think about a site or app that the class might like. It could be web design or graphic design related or could just be a really cool thing that the class would appreciate seeing. Think about the CONTENT or the VISUAL DESIGN of the site or app.
